Free IP PBX system for Windows released

3CX, which is developing a based IP PBX, has released a first version of its IP PBX product, 3CX Phone System for Windows - Free Edition.

The system liberates companies from the high purchase and management costs associated with proprietary PBXs, says the company in a statement to ITWeb.

"3CX Phone System for Windows Free Edition is unique because it runs on Windows. Until now free IP PBX software was only available for Linux," adds Nick Galea, CEO 3CX.

VOIP represents serious security risk

and other companies switching their phone systems to voice over IP are making themselves vulnerable to attacks for which there are no effective detection or prevention tools, a security researcher warned.

CIO Magazine quotes an independent security researcher, known by his pseudonym The Grugq, as saying: "People will be able to penetrate bank networks and hijack their phone lines."

The Grugq, who spoke this week at the Hack in the Box Security Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, said VOIP phishing attacks will emerge by the end of this year. The attacks will allow hackers to steal personal data, including credit card numbers and bank account information, and warned there is little security managers can do to stop them.

Comcast gets 1m VOIP customers

US communications company Comcast has announced it has added more than one million Comcast digital voice customers in less than two years.

"To keep pace with the growing popularity and increasing demand of triple play, Comcast also announced that it now expects to add more than 4 000 jobs nationwide this year," reads a company press release.

Steve Burke, COO of Comcast, adds the company is increasing its job growth projections this year to meet the accelerating customer demand for the bundle and our Comcast digital voice service.
