3Com has released the RIS Menu Editor as a free extension to the functionality of Microsoft`s Windows 2000 Remote Installation Services (RIS), which allows administrators to easily add menus and options to the RIS Client Wizard.

The RIS Menu Editor is a simple-to-use Windows application that lets administrators and VARs add additional task/menu options to the RIS Client Installation Wizard main menu.

"These menus and options can be used to easily add maintenance utilities, such as to remotely upgrading 3Com DynamicAccess, BIOS upgrades and virus scanning programs, or to simplify deployment of other desktop operating systems to client PCs on a network," says 3Com network consultant manager, Henk van Eck.

This utility is best suited for Windows 2000 and 3Com customers who have deployed 3Com NIC`s throughout their network and are actively using DynamicAccess to prioritise application traffic. RIS Menu Editor can also be customised for other vendors` NIC`s. "Other key benefits include easy manageability for adding and editing menu items to the RIS maintenance, a troubleshooting option menu and the automatic setup option menu," he says.

The RIS Menu Editor can be downloaded free from 3Com`s web site at http://www.3com.com/managedpc/ with other free DynamicAccess components.
