Olicom Africa has released a new desktop management application that is designed to reduce the time and costs associated with the management of Olicom`s network interface cards (NICs) and PC cards in a corporate network.
Called LANscout, it is a free download from Olicom`s website.
To get started, the LANscout Agent must be installed on all workstations on the network that are to be managed.
LANscout gathers detailed management information concerning hardware, software, and usage for each of the workstations` NICs.
Users can access LANscout information through the Internet, on any workstation in the network, or through the dedicated LANscout Manager application.
"By integrating the latest Internet technology with remote device information and statistics retrieval, LANscout enables users to interrogate, control and configure all workstations on a corporate-wide network from one central site via a GUI interface.
"This saves significantly on time and effort when - for example - revisions to port settings, security parameters, driver updates and other changes have to be made," says Olicom Africa country manager, Nick Muller.
LANscout allows the network manager to identify each NIC interface card by MAC address and workstations via LANscout agent IP addresses.
"LANscout facilitates remote diagnostics, troubleshooting, configurations, repairs, and LAN audits that could otherwise have required an on-site visit by a skilled technician," adds Muller.
LANscout is compatible with all Olicom Token-Ring, Fast Ethernet, ATM, ISL adapters, and GoCards (PCMCIA cards). Multi-protocol support ensures LANscout occupies minimal network bandwidth.
It supports HP OpenView for easy integration.
