Apple will replace a limited number of iPhone 6 Plus phone cameras due to faulty back cameras that take blurry photos.

The affected phones were mostly sold in a four-month period between September 2014 and January 2015, Apple said on its Web site.

The company says a small component in the affected iPhone 6 Plus iSight back camera may fail.

Apple will replace the phone's camera free of charge if it takes blurry photos and falls into a particular serial number range.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus went on sale in South Africa on 24 October 2014. SA was part of the second group of countries where the phones were released. However, these devices were available for purchase as grey products from certain Web sites before the official South African release.

Apple warned on its Web site that repairs may be restricted or limited to the original country of purchase.

Eligible serial numbers can be checked here.

Apple also notes any other damage, such as a cracked screen ? which impairs the camera replacement ? will need to be resolved prior to service. There may be a cost associated with this repair.

The iPhone 6 Plus was Apple's first attempt at jumping on the 'phablet' trend with a large 5.5-inch screen.

Shortly after last year's September release, some iPhone 6 Plus buyers discovered their phones bend when placed in back pockets or while wearing skinny jeans. Dubbed 'bendgate' on social media, the issue got a lot of attention.

However, Apple said through its first six days of sale, only nine customers contacted the company complaining of a bent iPhone 6 Plus.
