The BlueBox launched its first FREE software offering earlier this year. Dubbed FREEbase, it is a business server platform that runs on either Windows or Linux.
It provides users with an intranet, basic publishing, e-mail server and Web client, fax server and Web client, enterprise and personal calendars and address books, RSS feeds and other equally nifty features. It can be downloaded from the BlueBox Web site or ordered on CD with a printed mini-manual.
According to Paul De Villiers, BlueBox MD: "The business model behind this drive into free-software moves in two directions. Firstly, we want to give something back to the 'free software' community (much of our platform relies on Linux/open source products) and furthermore, the best way to refine a product is to put it out in the market.
"We want to build relationships with customers worldwide that are looking for a free server platform that answers most of their intranet needs. As these businesses grow and require business-centric software on the same platform, the established relationship will result in the BlueBox being able to provide them with integrated commercial solutions."
FREEbase can be obtained online, or ordered at http://www.blueboxonline.com/.
