Fring goes mainstream

The iPhone app Fring, which acts as a client for Skype and other phone networks, as well as a voice and chat interface into IM networks like AIM and Yahoo, is now available free to everyone. Previously it only ran on Jailbroken iPhones, severely limiting its audience, says Cnet News.

Fring lets users place calls on the cellular or VOIP networks and on the iPhone, it can read both IM and Skype buddy lists, as well as the contacts in the phone's address book, and when selecting a contact, users get the option of calling him or her by SIP call, Skype, or standard cellular.

VOIP calls obviously don't count against cellular minutes, but a connection is needed to make the calls.

Cicero Networks releases CiceroPhone V2OIP

Cicero Networks, a leading provider of rich communications solutions for fixed mobile convergence, released CiceroPhone V2OIP (voice and video) for Nokia Eseries and Nseries handsets, says Manufacturing Business Technology.

This release delivers the world's first real-time, two-way IP video application for Nokia phones, enabling high quality video telephony over WiFi and 3G/4G networks.

CiceroV2OIP provides video streaming using either the front or back camera on phones and simultaneously displays both the outgoing and incoming video streams to both parties on a call. In addition, CiceroPhone V2OIP supports a range of half-duplex video applications, including "see-what-I-see" video sharing on any Series 60 Nokia device.

PSS announces record results

PSS, an American provider of contact centre software and services, announced a third consecutive quarter with record financial results, states PRWeb.

Revenue for the third quarter was up 84% over the same period last year, and the company has in 2008 already surpassed its full year 2007 revenue and profits.

Sales of next generation IVR services, CTI services, usability design services, and VOIP media gateway licences were all up sharply, complementing an increase in the company's managed service revenue for legacy call centre infrastructure.
