FrontRange adds network management to SMB portfolio

By FrontRange
Johannesburg, 27 May 2004

In a world where end-user downtime is the most expensive part of the average computer network, a new application released in SA this week promises to make the task of managing your network infrastructure easier than ever - particularly for the small and medium-sized (SMB) business market.

DiscoverNET is the first offering in the infrastructure management solutions family from business relationship software vendor FrontRange Solutions SA, but it`s a logical progression for a company which has been making a name for itself in the IT service management market.

DiscoverNET is a scalable, distributed network management solution that allows administrators to manage their networks more proactively and effectively through remote monitoring, analysis and management.

IT think-tank Gartner suggests that enterprises that systematically manage the lifecycle of their IT assets will reduce the cost per asset by as much as 30% during the first year and between 5%-10% annually during the next five years.

A strong selling point of DiscoverNET is its integration with FrontRange`s Service Management application HEAT. This means that data from discovered devices can launch real-time configuration changes and generate trouble tickets to help avoid interruption of normal operations.

Tracey Newman, MD of FrontRange SA, says DiscoverNET is the first of a suite of applications designed to address several high growth markets, with the legacy brands HEAT and GoldMine strengthening FrontRange`s comprehensive competitive position as a complete solutions provider.

According to Gartner research, significant growth is projected for the IT service desk (6.4%), IT asset management (10.7%) and configuration management (6.7%) sectors.

New capabilities on the way include modules for patch, inventory, software management, compliance enforcement, preventative maintenance, and lease and contract management.

"Effective infrastructure management enables IT organisations to implement strategies that increase productivity, reduce costs, improve security and proactively manage their business," said Newman. "Understanding inventory locations, costs, maintenance, software usage and lifecycles can result in substantial savings and operational efficiencies."
