FTI launches Business Analysis Upgrade Programme

By Faculty Training Institute
Johannesburg, 28 Sept 2009

Faculty Training Institute has recently launched its Business Analysis Upgrade Programme. The programme allows delegates who have successfully completed FTI's 16-week Certificate Programme in Business Analysis to upgrade to the prestigious and definitive full Diploma programme once they are in a position to submit the workplace assignments that the Diploma requires.

The Upgrade programme is scheduled to run four times a year in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and can be completed in 12 weeks with most of the time spent preparing two practical assignments for assessment.

The 22-week Diploma in Business Analysis, which has been running since 2001, is seen by more than 150 South African companies as the definitive vocational qualification for business analysts, and was the first South African programme to be endorsed by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).

Increasing demand for training for new and entry-level business analysts, who experienced difficulty with the advanced level of work done on the Diploma, led to FTI launching its shorter Certificate programme late last year specifically for the entry-level market, with astonishing success, and to date more than 100 delegates have attended and successfully passed this course, which is also IIBA endorsed.

The Upgrade programme uses an RPL process (Recognition of Prior Learning) to ensure that the right calibre of delegates is admitted. Once admitted to the Upgrade Programme, delegates are guided through the completion of their workplace assignments, and will attend a short practical workshop before sitting the same final examination as the Diploma itself.

In the future, delegates with suitable non-FTI qualifications may also be admitted to the Upgrade Programme provided they pass a theoretical and practical competency assessment which is currently under development and will be available soon. In particular, to be admitted, delegates must have completed the relevant academic content at an appropriate level and must be able to demonstrate that they have used those skills in appropriate workplace projects by producing the relevant project documentation.

Advance bookings are now open for the 2010 academic year for both the Certificate and Diploma programmes.

Faculty Training Institute

Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is a private training company that specialised in offering world-class career-oriented training courses for professional knowledge workers, mainly in the corporate world. Focusing on mid-career rather than entry-level training, FTI specialises in project management, business analysis, systems analysis, technical writing, IT management, enterprise architecture, and technical writing training. It offers a variety of training options, including public or in-house, part-time or full-time courses.

FTI was founded in 1989 by five experienced lecturers from the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, who perceived a gap between the technical or entry-level training offered by most private training companies, and the longer degree programmes offered by tertiary institutions. During the past 20 years, FTI has expanded its successful product offerings from the initial two Diploma courses into growing range of diplomas and short courses that serve the career needs of corporate South Africa.

In October 2006, FTI was awarded Charter Endorsed Education Provider status with the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA). It is one of a handful of training organisations worldwide that have achieved this status.
