Faculty Training Institute, a leading business analysis and project management training organisation in South Africa, has been accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Registered Education Provider (REP) for its PMI Exam Preparation Workshop, Diploma in IS Project Management and short course, Project Management for Business People.
The Registered Education Provider (REP) programme, through which project managers can claim Professional Development Units (PDUs) towards maintaining Project Management Professional (PMP) credential, was developed by the PMI to enhance the ongoing professional development of project managers worldwide.
Professional Development Units can be claimed from training organisations approved by the PMI to issue PDUs for its training courses.
The Project Management Exam Preparation Workshop is a three-month part-time course offered by FTI and carries 30 PDUs towards Project Management Professional certification.
“This intensive course provides project managers who wish to write the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam with a structured preparation forum and mutual network of support. The sessions are structured so that specific areas of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK guide), which forms the basis of the exam, are covered comprehensively and delegates attending the FTI course can be assured that the material complies with global project management standards and has been endorsed by the Project Management Institute,” says Certified Project Management Professional and FTI Lecturer, Carol Mould.
FTI's Diploma in IS Project Management, which carries a PDU rating of 33 PDUs as defined by the PMI towards PMP certification and/or maintaining PMI credential is a landmark part-time course for professional persons who manage IT projects. Furthermore, FTI offers a three-day short course, Project Management for Business People, aimed at introducing the principles of project management and carries a PDU rating of 21.
“Being recognised as an approved training organisation by the PMI is another significant step for us, as this status is only granted to organisations that a have a proven track record in project management training, who can provide evidence of high-quality courseware, and whose courses comply with PMI global project management standards,” says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI. “It is part of our strategy to benchmark all of our courses against the prevailing professional standards, in whichever domain they may be.”

Faculty Training Institute
Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is a private training company that specialises in offering world-class career-oriented training courses for professional knowledge workers, mainly in the corporate world. Focusing on mid-career rather than entry-level training, FTI specialises in project management, business analysis, systems analysis, technical writing, IT management, enterprise architecture, and technical writing training. It offers a variety of training options, including public or in-house, part-time or full-time courses.
FTI was founded in 1989 by five experienced lecturers from the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, who perceived a gap between the technical or entry level training offered by most private training companies, and the longer degree programmes offered by tertiary institutions. During the past 20 years FTI has expanded its successful product offerings from the initial two Diploma courses into growing range of diplomas and short courses that serve the career needs of corporate South Africa.
In October 2006 FTI was awarded Charter Endorsed Education Provider (EEP) status with the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA). It is one of a handful of training organisations worldwide who have achieved this status. FTI has received full accreditation from ISETT SETA.
