Fujitsu Siemens Computers` drive to attract innovative companies to join Its "Qualified Partner" base, announced earlier this year, has reaped substantial success with several leading local Enterprise Companies seizing the opportunity and working together with Fujitsu Siemens Computers towards offering industry-leading solutions to valued customers.
Within the framework of the Qualified Partner Programme, Fujitsu Siemens Computers undertook to ensure that its partners were kept informed of developments, and offered their partners innovative leadership through introducing new products to meet market requirements.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced the introduction of the PRIMEPOWER-XA (Extended Architecture) as a major enhancement to its PRIMEPOWER enterprise server range.
Elmor van Staden, Product and brand manager for PRIMEPOWER at Fujitsu Siemens Computers says: "The XA features a totally new hardware design, differentiating our offering from our competitors in that we are in the unique position to offer features for the Open Systems Environment, which none of our competitors can do. The new XA-technology is very exciting and we are already working closely with our partners on projects where we will demonstrate and prove to our customers that we have an unequalled hardware platform for running the widely excepted Solaris OE."
The new PRIMEPOWER models and their added features are as follows:
The PRIMEPOWER 900 is taking over from the current PRIMEPOWER 800, PRIMEPOWER 1500 from the PRIMEPOWER 1000 and the new flagship, the PRIMEPOWER 2500, replaces the PRIMEPOWER 2000.
All the new models will be using the new 5th generation SPARC processors catering for GHz classes using .13 micron copper technology. Some of the unique features that have been added to this processor generation are the processing/register parity functionality and an instruction retry feature which is handled by the hardware. The secondary cache has also been moved onto the chip for better performance, while Parallel and Out-of-Order Processing are still standard features.
On the topic of Fujitsu Siemens Computers` crossbar implementation, Van Staden claims that they are far ahead of the competition. "The overall throughput has been doubled to 133GBps and the crossbar as well as the system clock are now fully redundant. We are extremely optimistic about the new benchmark results that will be published in early 2003.
"The new systems boast a footprint reduction of up to 50%, despite the fact that performance, capacity and power have been doubled. This will benefit customers data centres by considerably reducing TCO.
"Definitely the hottest feature added to the new system design is the brand new Extended Partitioning (XPAR) capability. This fresh new outlook to partitioning will offer the best optimised granularity and flexibility as multiple partitions within a system board and partitioning across system boards are possible. All the old value-added features such as Dynamic Reconfiguration is supported on the Extended System Board level, all managed from a central System Management Console," concludes Van Staden.
