Fujitsu, the world`s third largest IT company, received the "Best of Innovations" award in the biometrics category at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations Design and Engineering Awards in the US.
The award was given for Fujitsu`s PalmSecure technology, a vein-based biometric authentication device that offers a high level of security since palm vein patterns are extremely difficult to forge, and which is also less intrusive than other solutions such as iris scanning. Utilising the unique characteristic of deoxidised hemoglobin flowing in palm veins, the individual`s distinctive vein pattern is recognised. The process is highly accurate, delivering a false acceptance rate of less than 0.00008%.
Fujitsu has over 20 years of experience in image recognition and processing, which has led to the development of this cutting-edge biometric product.
The CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards recognise the newest consumer electronics products that exhibit excellence in form and function. A panel comprised of independent engineers, industrial designers and members of the trade press judge products based on their user value, aesthetics design qualities, contributions to the quality of life and innovative design. The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) endorses and acts as an advisor to the awards.
