Fujitsu Siemens Computers energises businesses with giga-power

Johannesburg, 05 Sep 2001

Fujitsu Siemens Computers today announced a major upgrade to its LIFEBOOK E Series notebook range, which will now run on cutting-edge 1.066GHz Intel Pentium III processors. This upgrade marks the latest advance in Fujitsu Siemens Computers` campaign to make mobile working a reality for businesses of all sizes.

Aimed at corporate customers as well as SMEs and SOHOs, the new LIFEBOOK E Series offers desktop computing power in a thinner, lighter (2.6kg) package, at an affordable price.

"Mobility is now a major challenge, but also an opportunity, for businesses of all sizes. SMEs and SOHOs are looking for high performing notebooks that perform as effectively on the move as they do in the office. The latest LIFEBOOK E Series notebooks with 1.066GHz Pentium III power make leading-edge mobile computing an affordable option for smaller businesses," commented Dino Kondos, product manager desktop and mobile computing, at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

The new LIFEBOOK E Series supports a range of mobile Pentium III processors offering Intel`s new Tualatin technology. Improvements have also been achieved on the memory side: the two free memory slots can support a maximum of 1GB RAM, which nearly doubles the memory capacity compared to the predecessor product. Mobile business customers will enjoy the enhanced 14.1-inch SXGA+ or XGA TFT display, with an impressive 1400 x 1050 maximum resolution, and the improved graphics package including advanced ATI M6-D processing power.

Managing a company`s considerable IT assets in a mobile world is a huge challenge for today`s IT directors. For the first time, the LIFEBOOK E Series offers the sophisticated `Deskview` mobile manageability tool as standard, allowing IT managers to track data from technical configuration through to component failure.

In addition to being more powerful, the new LIFEBOOK E Series is easy to use. Five programmable quick launch buttons allow customers to launch applications easily and quickly, and with the choice of CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-ROM drives, or a DVD/CD-RW combination drive, mobile workers are able to save large files and can share information effectively. As with other LIFEBOOKs, the latest E Series also offers a high level of security, through its SmartCard facility and built-in Security Panel. The anticipated recommended retail selling price of these models is R32 000 (including VAT).
