Fulcrum signs new business partnerships with SphericalAngle, EPK

Johannesburg, 06 Apr 2005

Enterprise project management (EPM) solution provider, Fulcrum Business Solutions, has recognised a need in the South African market for Critical Chain capability within the Microsoft EPM solution, leading to the development of a business partnership with SphericalAngle.

Critical Chain is a methodology for running projects based on Dr EM Goldratt`s Theory of Constraints (TOC). A number of large South African companies run their projects using Critical Chain, but until recently there has been no built-in support for customers also running Microsoft EPM. A few tools for Critical Chain scheduling have been available, some leveraging Microsoft Project (however, with a proprietary collaboration engine) and other totally non-Microsoft-based.

"We have created an alliance with SphericalAngle in order to improve and expand on the Critical Chain capabilities available to EPM users," explains Dries van der Colff, Technical Director at Fulcrum Business Solutions. "Through this partnership we are now able to offer a complete Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) solution which includes quality software, training and support."

"The value of a partnership with Fulcrum is that it allows SphericalAngle the use of Fulcrum`s Knowledge Centre for further development and testing for EPM compliance. Fulcrum has also extended its network of contacts with Microsoft in Redmond to SphericalAngle, setting us up to expand internationally and ensure our products are compliant with the latest version of Microsoft EPM," says Scott Button, Senior Leadership Consultant of SphericalAngle.

The partnership with SphericalAngle is yet another of the value-added services that Fulcrum Business Solutions through its various third-party relationships," explains Van der Colff, who is responsible for evaluation potential business partners and establishing these relationships. Earlier this year, Fulcrum Business Solutions also announced a partnership with Germany-based The Project Group (TPG) and has signed up as an EPK reseller.

EPK-Portfolio is a project portfolio management tool that is used to align portfolio items with corporate objectives and manage them through a stage gates that reflect a company`s business processes. It is tightly integrated with Microsoft EPM, and extends the built-in functionality of EPM with enhanced reporting and analysis.
