Leading technology company, Smartsource, today announced the launch of their first business incubation success, Fundamental Software - a financial software development company with an advanced portfolio management system for wealth managers.
The company specializes in client-centric software development to the private and institutional wealth management arena. Its product, the Fundamental Portfolio Manager, provides wealth managers with the ability to manage investment portfolios and client relationships with ease while minimising associated administrative and routine processing tasks.
The company fills a niche in the lower to middle tier asset management environment says Craig Arenhold, MD of Fundamental. "We cater for wealth managers who cannot afford the big international systems, and are increasingly aware of the business risk surrounding homegrown systems. Particularly, since South African financial markets are becoming increasingly regulated, some of the smaller companies are struggling to comply. This system facilitates this complicity very cost-effectively."
The Fundamental Portfolio Manager was custom-built three years ago for an asset management company called Blue Ink International Investments. The product's innovative features and ease-of-use compared to that of other products in the market led Smartsource to acquire the rights to the product in 2003. The system was further developed and marketed, before being launched as a stand-alone company. "The product was ideal as it was already mature and complied with everything on our wish list for a top portfolio management system," says Arenhold.
Fundamental differs from other products on the market in that it offers a full front to back solution. "Many systems are modular - they are not complete, which means you have to buy more expensive systems over time to supplement your existing system. With Fundamental you get everything, from order processing right through to client reporting, at a cost-effective price," explains Arenhold.
Initially Fundamental will be marketed within South Africa, with a view to taking the product offshore at some stage in the future.
