FutureSchool, the education arm of the Software Futures Group, has launched a specialised training program designed to meet the challenges of the emerging electronic commerce (e-commerce) economy.
As part of its initiative, the e-commerce diploma course - presented in conjunction with the Cape-based FutureSchool company Computer Science Institute (CSI) - uses a modular approach to focus on the practical implementation of an electronic commerce site.
"Each student will plan, design and implement a functional site through a series of practical exercises that cover the various aspects of an operational e-commerce site," says FutureSchool GM Loyiso Pityana. "The class will also examine the relationships and roles of networks, the TCP/IP protocol, programming techniques and usage of logs and performance statistics in electronic transactions."
Pityana says the course is aimed at network server administrators, firewall administrators, systems administrators, Web application developers, e-commerce architects and Webmasters with a basic knowledge of the operating systems that drive e-commerce applications.
"Students will need to complete a number of individual modules to qualify for the diploma in e-commerce. They will also have to attend 80% of the lectures and submit set assignments by specified deadlines," she adds. "Successful students will be able to enter an international examination for certification as Webmaster - e-Commerce track."
The 10-day full time course will cover, amongst others topics:
. e-commerce - the business case
. e-commerce fundamentals
. Networking and TCP/IP essentials
. e-commerce using the Internet
. The role of the Web server
. Security for e-commerce
