Local companies need to harness the relationship between IT and business, and better understand the challenges facing CIOs and IT managers.
These are some of the issues to be discussed on day two of the Futurex 2005 conference, organised by ITWeb and to be held in Sandton next month.
A number of speakers from local corporates will share insights into key success factors in ICT initiatives.
Sasol Technology IM head Sadesh Harichand Sookraj will provide a practical view of the issues encountered in the running of a large IT department. He will discuss transformation and other key challenges, as well as issues facing the CIO and IT manager.
Today`s business organisations are increasingly using technology to drive differentiation and obtain a competitive advantage, says Sookraj. In order to achieve some degree of success, issues such as organisational structure and delivery processes are important.
"My presentation will involve sharing some best practices from a variety of companies, both local and international. I will also impart some information about my own business, some from the US and also companies from other emerging countries," he says.
According to Telkom CTO Reuben September, a connected Africa is the essential building block for economic growth and development. In his presentation at the event, he will explore some of the present and future technologies available, and provide some key considerations for continent-wide implementation.
Sage Financial CIO Shaan Watkins will cover the best practices for using IT to drive business at Sage, major IT initiatives and key success factors, the relationship between IT and business, and top challenges for the CIO going forward.
