Launched last year as a worthy successor to veteran exhibitions and conferences Tel.Com and Computer Faire, Futurex showcases the best of international and local technology on display at the exhibition.
Organised by ITWeb and condensed into two focused days, this year Futurex: The Conference lives up to its name by looking far into the future.
Day one on 18 May looks at small business - from start-up to cracking the R25 million barrier - with experts such as speaker Nkosinathi Khumalo, CEO of Mthombo IT Services, sharing their insights on how SMEs and those who supply into this fast-growing sector can identify and implement key strategies for success.
M-IT is one of the largest black-owned and managed South African IT companies and delivers world-class IT infrastructure support services. M-IT was voted as the Top Black ICT Company for the year 2004 by ForgeAhead and the Department of Communications. Khumalo will walk delegates through the route the company took to build itself from a start-up to where it is today. ICT suppliers will also give overviews of their small business builder products in an unpressured informative environment.
Other speakers on day one include Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx (keynote); Martin Feinstein, chief executive of Enablis South Africa; Masedi Molosiwa, executive director of CITI; Bryan Hattingh, CEO of Cycan; and Dr Neville Comins, CEO of The Innovation Hub.
Day two on 19 May looks far forward with a leading global futurologist, CTOs and CIOs giving their view of the way forward.
For the first time in SA, Ian Pearson, Chief Futurologist at British Telecom, will give his view of the future world and the challenge of technology and a changing society. BT is a world leader in innovation, and no one has a better insight into future uses of their technologies and applications than Pearson.
Whether discussing headline-grabbing developments like home automation and peer-to-peer file distribution networks; ultra-simple computing; smart environments; conscious computing; the new texting revolution of high volume SMS messaging; mobility and security in the digital networked economy; ambient intelligence technology; or using broadband as a tool for social innovation, Pearson has a wide ranging knowledge of the time machine of technology.
His presentation will be a live transmission from the UK, sponsored by BT and Telkom.
We have also been fortunate to secure as speaker David Jones, Chief Technologist for the global data centre practice in the client solutions organisation at Sun Microsystems. His role is to provide leadership and definition to the portfolio of services and solutions brought to the industry by Sun. He also supports strategic global projects through leadership and guidance on the architectural solutions being delivered by Sun in the data centre.
Probably the African continent`s leading technologist, and CTO of Telkom, Reuben September, will lead us into his vision of a connected Africa, an inspiring presentation that promises a bright future.
As if these speakers were not enough, we also have some of the leading businessmen and CIOs with brilliant case studies!
Don`t miss this great event, sponsored by industry for industry in co-operation with the CSSA, EIF, SACF, IISA, BITF and ITA.
