Game creator dies

Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva at age 69, says CNN.com.

Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures.

The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

Ziff Davis goes bankrupt

Officials from Ziff Davis Media, owner of several gaming press outlets like 1Up.com and Electronic Gaming Monthly, have announced the company is filing for voluntary bankruptcy, says PSX Extreme.

The company is doing this in order to get moving on their 'restructuring plans', and hopes to break free of Chapter 11 by this summer.

In order to continue their normal daily operations, Ziff Davis says an "ad hoc group of shareholders" has set aside $24.5 million as it enters the Chapter 11 phase.

Panasonic sponsors Halo player

Panasonic Projector Systems Company (PJSC) has partnered with Major League Gaming in order to sponsor professional Halo player Tom 'Tsquared' Taylor, says GWN.

PJSC hopes to promote and demonstrate its latest home theatre projector designed specifically for games, the PT-AX200U, which supports full 720p high definition with "virtually" no lag in response time.

"I'm very excited to work with Panasonic Projector Systems Company in this new partnership. Panasonic's AX200 is truly in a class by itself," said Taylor.
