Garmin has released version 2 of the company`s Garmap African road atlas, a routing navigation product, featuring updated maps and seven additional African countries.

Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, with detailed through-routes for selected cities in each country, have been added, says Jason Theunissen, sales manager at Avnic Trading, Garmin`s brand custodian and distributor.

Aimed at travellers planning to explore Southern and Eastern Africa, the atlas covers 435 371km of primary, secondary and tertiary roads and city through-routes, he says.

The atlas works on all Garmin map-enabled global positioning systems (), and can exchange track, waypoint and route information between GPS devices and Windows PCs.

"The product contains features such as lakes, dams, major rivers, parks, reserves, forests, contours (200m), built-up places with names and a large number of places of interest."

The software is bundled with certain GPS units, which can also be purchased separately.
