Gartner lists Acta Technology as a visionary software vendor

Johannesburg, 14 Jan 2002

A report by research and advisory group Gartner rates Acta Technology as a visionary software provider in the extraction transformation transport (ETT) tools market.

Acta provides solutions that address the challenges of building data warehouses centred on ERP (enterprise resource planning) and is distributed in South Africa by Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI). Acta received the accolade in a research note titled "ETT tools market: trends and magic quadrant". Gartner listed 17 software providers in a "magic quadrant" that evaluates vendors on their vision and ability to execute on that vision in the ETT tool market.

Gartner defines visionaries as vendors that have a clear vision of market direction and are focused on preparing for that, but which can still improve in terms of optimising service delivery. Acta was the only vendor listed in the visionary quadrant.

"To be listed as a visionary in the ETT market by a company of the calibre of Gartner is a validation of Acta`s technology," says GBI CEO Johan Cloete. "Many industry leaders are recognising the need to turn their corporate data into a business asset to maximise profitability, achieve growth and gain stability in the current economy.

"Acta customers are saying they are able to make better decisions and react to changing business requirements faster, thereby increasing their competitiveness in the marketplace, by using Acta`s data integration platform to make historical ERP and other enterprise system data available to their employees, customers and trading partners."

The Acta data integration platform consists of ActaWorks, a data movement-and-management server, and eCaches, a suite of packaged data caches that speed the delivery and integration of back-office data in the following areas:

  • .         sales and marketing

  • .         finance and operations

  • .         inventory and purchasing

  • .         manufacturing and distribution. Acta`s data integration platform combines the benefits of data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) with the realtime aspect of a direct-connect solution and the company`s proven data caching capability.
