Gartner lists Unisys in outsourcing Magic Quadrant

Johannesburg, 03 May 2006

Unisys has been listed in the Leaders quadrant in two of Gartner`s recent Magic Quadrant reports on outsourcing services providers. The reports cover "North American Desktop Outsourcing Services 2005" and "North American Help-Desk Outsourcing Services 2005".

"Unisys has established a strong position and accelerated momentum in IT outsourcing for distributed environments, encompassing servers, desktops, networks, and mobile devices such as laptops and PDAs," says Dave Methven, director, Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services at Unisys Africa. "The distributed environment is the crucial point of client contact for enterprises and governments - where increasingly mobile workforces deliver services and generate revenue."

The Gartner Magic Quadrant reports evaluate outsourcing services providers on both completeness of vision and ability to execute. The evaluation for completeness of vision includes analysis of the provider`s view of the market, service operating model, and strategic plans for growth and service improvements. The evaluation for ability to execute assesses the provider`s success in delivering results today and its preparation to do the same in the future.

In Gartner`s analysis, Leaders are those providers that perform skilfully, have a clear vision of the market`s direction, and actively build and improve the competencies required to sustain their leadership positions.

Real-time IT support and management are critical in environments where time can literally be money. Unisys helps clients achieve the benefits of secure business operations through IT outsourcing.

Gartner says the market for desktop and distributed IT support services remains a growing and evolving sector.

Unisys has recently won numerous contracts to provide outsourced IT infrastructure management and support services for businesses and government agencies worldwide.

Major wins in North America include:

* US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS): Managed services for IT infrastructure supporting 8 000 users across eight HHS operating divisions.
* Countrywide Financial Corporation: A three-year extension of an existing Unisys engagement to provide outsourced IT management and support services for more than 80 000 devices used by 30 000 countrywide employees at more than 800 sites throughout the US.
* US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Transportation Security Administration (TSA): An extension of an existing Unisys engagement for managed services that help promote continuity of IT operations to maintain the mission capabilities of DHS and TSA.

Major Unisys wins in other parts of the world include the UK`s Metropolitan Police Service, as part of the Capgemini-led CUBIT collaboration; Germany`s Bavarian Ministry of Justice; and New Zealand`s Land Transport NZ.

Unisys was also listed in the Leaders quadrant of the 2005 Gartner Magic Quadrant report evaluating data centre outsourcing services providers in North America.

Enterprises and governments face a paradox in today`s competitive marketplace. IT resources are indispensable for continually creating additional business value. Yet deploying and managing IT assets can divert valuable internal IT resources from furthering strategic objectives. The answer is engaging a proven, expert outsourcing services provider. Unisys can provide management and support to clients with optimal economy and efficiency - and help guide the evolution of the IT infrastructure to enable greater competitive agility and to support future growth.

"We believe that Unisys`s positioning in the Leaders quadrant of these prestigious Gartner reports and our outsourcing business momentum clearly show the results of the innovation and commitment to execution for our clients that Unisys brings to outsourcing engagements," says Randy Hendricks, president, Unisys Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services. "We feel this recognition demonstrates how Unisys outsourcing services enable clients in North America and around the world to optimise their IT investments and manage their business more effectively for operational excellence and competitive advantage."
