Gartner makes mistake
In May, Gartner mistakenly reported that Hewlett-Packard (HP) had taken top spot in the global server market with sales of $4.01 billion in the first quarter of 2008, reports Heise Online.
New figures and the re-analysis of the data have now shown that HP's sales in the server market in the first quarter of 2008 were 'just' $3.77 billion.
This means that they remain in second place with a market share of 28.3%, compared to IBM's 29.4%.
Just Develop It monitors servers
Just Develop It is now offering a variety of services ranging from online storage to virtual sales agents, says TMCnet.
Last year, the company created an in-house operation that externally monitors servers for downtime and uptime.
The new operation, Just Uptime, does not require any installations. It's a Web-based server monitoring and alert service that allows registered users to build a unique dashboard equipped with various checks to ensure that a particular Web site or server is functioning properly.
MS announces release date
Announced back in February, previewed and priced in May, the business products built on Windows Server 2008 from the Windows Essential Server Solutions product line now have a release date, says ars technica.
Windows Small Business Server 2008 (for up to 75 PCs) and Windows Essential Business Server 2008 (for up to 300 PCs) will be released on November 12, Steven VanRoekel, senior director of the Windows Server Solutions group at Microsoft, said at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference.
The announcement comes as the Release Candidate 1 milestone for both products is almost passed. Those interested in pre-release versions of Small Business Server 2008 and Essential Business Server 2008 can still sign up to download and evaluate them.
