Gartner names market leader
Business Objects, an SAP company, has been named the business intelligence (BI) market share leader, according to the 2007 BI platform software market share report issued this week by Gartner, says NewsBlaze.
Business Objects ranks number one with an 18.2% share of the BI market.
Gartner defines total BI software revenue as revenue generated from new licences, updates, subscriptions and hosting, technical support and maintenance.
EquaTerra and Microsoft
Software developer EquaTerra has partnered with Microsoft to launch an IT workplace governance platform, says VNUNet.
EquaTerra made the decision to develop the Governance WorkPlace tool after seeing an increase in sourcing activity and the subsequent need to manage service providers and contracts effectively.
The tool is built on Microsoft's BI platform and has been designed to support the management of complex governance issues, provide people with information, and streamline processes.
BI sells 'green' software
BI firm SAS is set to launch a solution that enables companies to measure how their operations affect the environment - a tough sell for now but a step in the right direction, according to one analyst, says Inquirer.net.
SAS says its Sustainability Management solution allows end-users to measure business based on what it refers to as the "triple bottom line" of environmental, social and economic indicators.
SAS says its solution uses predefined "green" metrics from the Global Reporting Initiative, used by more than thousands of businesses to measure the environmental impact of their operations.
