Gartner has named Teradata in its data warehousing Magic Quadrant for 2011. It has effectively positioned Teradata as the global leader in its assessment of companies, which compete in the market for data warehousing databases.
The Magic Quadrant assesses companies on their vision and ability to deliver, across a broad range of criteria. By placing Teradata at the extreme top right-hand extremity of its quadrant, Gartner has identified Teradata as the global market leader in the data warehousing market, says Hendrik Blignaut, Enterprise Intelligence Solutions executive at Bytes Systems Integration, the sole distributor for Teradata in South Africa.
Teradata has been positioned ahead of Sybase, EMC, IBM and Oracle, among others.
“This latest Magic Quadrant confirms what our customers have known for years,” says Blignaut. “And that is that Teradata's technology is way ahead of its competitors.”
Gartner notes: “Teradata came out fighting in 2010... It repositioned its midrange data warehouse appliance, the 2650... in a move that gave Teradata two solid offerings. More importantly, this appliance prompts clients to examine both mixed and unmixed workload performance, in which Teradata outperforms its competitors.
“Teradata's management software, including Teradata Active System Management (TASM) and Viewpoint, is a clear strength. The management software manages the entire data warehouse environment. Teradata's Analytical Ecosystem Management software is another core strength. It confers the ability to gain a single operational view across Teradata systems and to move and manage data and applications between multiple analytical systems in an enterprise.
“Teradata has strengthened its platform's ability to integrate with data mining and advanced analytics by introducing specific support for SAS software. Teradata also has technical and marketing partnerships with major BI and data integration vendors. Teradata's long experience in the data warehouse space, and its specific strategy for addressing the common use of best-of-breed approaches in the largest organisations, remain strengths,” Gartner concludes.
“Business intelligence, especially at an enterprise level, remains a competitive differentiator,” Blignaut concludes. “Our many existing and prospective customers in South Africa know that they have invested in the very best solutions available today.”
