Gartner rates LayerOne`s Intellisync service second globally

Johannesburg, 28 Oct 2005

"Magic quadrant for Enterprise Wireless Email software 2H05", released on 11 October 2005, is the latest Gartner report positioning the global leaders of the mobile solutions space. LayerOne, an Internet solutions subsidiary and SA and Africa distributor for Intellisync, was pleased to see its technology rated second globally with emphasis on ability to execute mobility solutions.

The report names only seven major independent mobile solutions providers after a year of consolidation in the industry with BlackBerry first, Intellisync second and other technologies available in SA like Microsoft fourth, Extended Systems OneBridge fifth and OpenHand joint last.

Says Stuart Hardy, MD of LayerOne, about the company`s view of the market: "The mobile solutions space is filled with great technologies at this point and over the next year or two we expect to see even more. LayerOne started in providing straight forward e-mail and pim services and now provides seven mobile technologies for corporate companies from e-mail and pim to CRM access. We also believe the consolidation has been good for the industry allowing only seven companies to emerge as leaders.

"Intellisync is ranked second in this category closely behind BlackBerry in ability to deliver and execute, but not as good in its ability to communicate, and markets its technologies and strengths to the global market. We feel this will change in the next year with a clear strategy from Intellisync to market and position its products over the next few years which we feel will close the gap between Intellisync and BlackBerry."

LayerOne believes the Intellisync product is the best positioned product to facilitate the current and future growth of the company`s mobile initiatives. This is important to LayerOne as most organisations mobile requirements at this point are limited to e-mail and pim, but as the benefits of these services are realised, organisations will want to provide greater information to their mobile users, such as data and document distribution, etc.

"In the next two years we believe the synchronising of e-mail to mobile devices will be a saturated market for corporate companies and their end-users and of course LayerOne. Because of this, our focus as a company in the long-term is not only e-mail and pim, but also device management and protection, file distribution as well as data sync and application access. The Intellisync platform is a modular system that allows organisations to add additional modules when they require it without having to deploy additional technologies and infrastructures," ends Hardy.
