This year's Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Africa 2007 will open on Monday in Cape Town, and will deal with the theme of consumerisation of IT.
The symposium will explore issues surrounding the impact of consumer IT on the enterprise, and the implications of consumer technologies on internal IT operations and external business conditions.
Some consumer technology issues will be addressed, such as why consumerisation is poised to have an impact on the enterprise, capitalising on Web 2.0 and what new technologies are emerging that could change the enterprise.
The event will feature four tracks:
* IT management in the Web 2.0 World: This track will discuss the tools required for strategic and tactical decision-making in the face of changing business and IT models.
* IT and society: how technology and society shape each other: This track will explore future user expectations and reveal methods by which to align the workforce for maximum benefits realisation.
* Technology selection, management and maintenance: This track will address the new world of software as a service, outsourced infrastructure and evolving models of customer and business interaction via electronic channels.
* Industry verticals: This track will serve to address challenges faced by Gartner's industry clients in the public, telecommunications and higher education sectors.
The Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Africa 2007 will take place from 27 August to 29 August, at the Cape Town International Conference Centre.
