The annual Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Africa 2002 is changing its focus to offer more local content this year.
The event, which has doubled its attendance every year since its local inception four years ago, is to adjust its focus to offer more content with local relevance. This year`s event will be staged at the Sandton Convention Centre between 5 and 7 August.
This year, the symposium will focus on the current business environment, strategies to adopt in this environment, specific customer focus initiatives and utilising partners and infrastructure. The event will provide delegates with a comprehensive five-year picture of coming trends, as well as expert advice on successful strategies.
Rene Jacobs, MD of Gartner Africa, says the event aims to give delegates a global view of trends and a local perspective. She points out that 105 Gartner analysts visited SA for a total of 700 man-days last year, allowing the group`s international analysts to form a comprehensive view of markets in SA and abroad.
"We aim to leverage this knowledge to give delegates to the symposium the broadest possible picture of global markets and where SA fits in," Jacobs says.
The symposium is expected to attract over 1 200 delegates this year, says Jacobs, comprising executives and middle management as well as IT specialists.
"In addition to over 30 presentations by 13 key Gartner analysts, the symposium will also run special activities concurrently with the symposium, including special invitation sessions for executives and the opportunity for 30-minute one-on-one sessions with analysts for clarification of key issues or individualised analysis of key trends."
Jacobs describes the event as a rare opportunity to access the gamut of Gartner`s knowledge in a three-day programme, as well as networking with the upper echelons of SA business and seeing the latest related IT offerings at the concurrent ITxpo Africa.
