Gartner's 'emergent architecture' not new
Gartner proposed a new approach to enterprise architecture (EA) during its EA Summit, saying companies should start looking at using an emergent architecture, and many people have something to say about it, reports InfoQ.
Mike Rollings, research director for Burton Group's EA, remarks that this approach is not new at all and Gartner is just waking up to see it.
Dion Hinchcliffe, an enterprise architect and business strategist, considers the emerging architecture approach to be about bridging the gap between IT and business.
3Com unveils firewalls
3Com has introduced the H3C SecPath F-Series and H3C SecBlade VPN firewalls, says RFP Connect.
These new VPN firewalls deliver threat protection against business disruptions, potential revenue loss and damage to an organisation's reputation caused by security breaches.
Intended for enterprise edge, core, data centre and high-speed computing environments, the new firewalls come in appliance and blade form factors and are currently undergoing ICSA Labs certification.
IBM to announce free EGL tools
IBM is expected to formally announce enterprise generation language (EGL) Community Edition, a new free version of its Eclipse-based EGL development tools for creating Web 2.0 applications on the System i server, this week, according to IT Jungle.
The product should be available starting next week, an IBM product manager confirmed.
"Nothing is set in stone until the official announcement comes out, but I do not expect any delays now," says Will Smythe, IBM's product line manager for the rational business developer and EGL development tools.
