Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Vodacom chairperson Wendy Luhabe are to be honoured by Stellenbosch University at its graduation ceremonies in December and March.
Gates is to receive an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy as a result of his pioneering work in the digital era.
A statement issued on behalf of the university said: "As a global entrepreneur and philanthropist, he is best known internationally as the man whose vision for 'a computer on every desktop and in every home' helped launch the digital information revolution."
Luhabe is to be awarded a Doctorate of Commerce for being a social entrepreneur and "one of the most influential businesswomen in SA".
Among other achievements, Luhabe was nominated by the Sunday Times as one of the 20 most powerful women in SA and honoured by the Star Group, in Los Angeles, as one of the 50 leading woman entrepreneurs in the world.
She is the author of the book Defining Moments - a look at the experiences of black businesspeople in the business world over a period of about 30 years, noted the university.
