The CEO of Gauteng Department of Education, Mr. MaLlele Petje and the Managing Director of Alcatel Business Systems, Martin Baak, will open the new Contact Centre in 111 Commissioner Street Johannesburg on 2 May 2002. This Contact Centre is sponsored mainly by Alcatel Business Systems and will have 14 agents.
The Contact Centre will use the newly released OmniPCX Office Platform, which will incorporate PABX, Data and Internet. According to the MEC for Education, Mr Ignatius Jacobs, The Guateng Department of Education has "levereage ICT as the main conduit through which its mission of ""smart public education service delivery"" should be attained. With the help of the Gautengonline.com project and Alcatel Business Systems involvement in the Contact Centre at 111 Commissioner Street, our education system has now more than ever been placed at the cutting edge of curriculum deliver."
The `Gauteng-on-Line` Project
- The Gauteng Department of Education`s vision is to have computers at all schools in its region to be able to provide Internet facilities to the students, as well as to the local community after school activities. This entire network will be linked back to the Education`s head-office via the Alcatel OmniPCX Office. Alcatel Business Systems will fund this Pilot Project.
