Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI), a division of JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology, aims to bring the benefits of business intelligence (BI) to organisations making ineffective use of BI tools, as well as those not currently using them, through the GBI Academy.
These seminars, to be launched in July, are aimed primarily at business users and decision-makers, however, they will also provide technical staff with a strategic understanding of business intelligence within the organisation.
"The seminars help people to understand that once they are using a BI solution they need to manage the change in the organisation and make the best possible use of the solution," says Willie Arnoldi, professional services director at GBI. "We aim to introduce the concept and benefits of enterprise intelligence and business performance management to decision-makers in the organisation to bring about this change."
In addition to the existing courses on offer, the GBI Academy now offers the following new business seminars:
* Leveraging your business intelligence investment;
* Best practice for implementation of OLAP solutions;
* Basics of data warehousing;
* Data warehousing - Methodologies and design;
* Mindset change - reporting to analysis and beyond;
* Total data quality management;
* Activity Based Costing (ABC) - The fundamentals; and
* Activity Based Costing (ABC) - In banks and the financial sector.
By far the broadest seminar, providing the foundation for enterprise Intelligence (EI), is "Leveraging your business intelligence investment", an in-depth understanding of four modules for those interested in a BI solution. During this seminar, for example, module one consists of an introduction covering the evolution of BI to EI, module two covers the data platform, module three the analytical platform and module four the application layer.
"We realised there were few resources available to non-technical business people interested in investing in a BI solution. We devised these seminars in conjunction with technical experts and business specialists in the field," says Arnoldi.
