Business intelligence applications are only as good as the information they use, and large organisations face particular challenges in integrating data from a wide range of sources and making it available for querying and manipulation.
Justin Vaughan-Brown, EMEA marketing manager for Acta Technology, Inc (recently acquired by Business Objects), will outline the options companies face in his presentation at Business Intelligence World Africa 2002 expo at the Dome in Northgate.
The expo, which runs from 23 to 25 July, focuses on information and knowledge efficiencies for strategic decision-making. Vaughan-Brown will present at 3pm on 24 July.
"Vaughan-Brown will highlight the fact that improving the quality of the decision-making process often necessitates merging data from multiple, disparate sources. This lies at the heart of business intelligence," says Johan Cloete, CEO of Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI), the local distributor for Acta.
Vaughan-Brown`s presentation will highlight the choices essential to effective business intelligence:
* Assessing the need for business intelligence for strategic supremacy;
* Using business evaluation and performance measurement to define management success factors;
* Calculating how knowledge, data and skills can give an organisation a competitive advantage;
* Understanding the importance of experience and entrepreneurial flair in drafting business intelligence strategies.
Business intelligence applications are a valuable solutions in assisting companies make smarter decisions, yet much of the data they require resides in a series of back-office systems, some of which are legacy systems that are particularly hard to integrate with more modern applications.
Vaughan-Brown has over 13 years` marketing experience, initially with a series of London advertising agencies, and more recently with a range of software companies in senior marketing roles. His experience encompasses CRM, business intelligence, data integration and help desk applications.
"In getting all applications to integrate the information supply pipeline, companies face time and cost demands. This is where Vaughan-Brown will provide an understanding for companies who are facing this challenge," concludes Cloete.
