In a deal worth R2.6 million, Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI), the business intelligence subsidiary of JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology, has implemented the Hyperion Performance Scorecard at Telecom Namibia, enabling the telecommunications company to integrate and automate its balanced scorecard solution to drive a performance-accountable organisation.
The previous scorecard system at Telecom Namibia was fragmented across the different divisions and could not be integrated into the company`s ERP system, says Frans Ndoroma, MD of Telecom Namibia.
GBI`s solution satisfies Telecom Namibia`s functional requirements of integrating all source systems automatically to the solution, and allowing it to translate strategy into objectives, actions and business performance measures, Ndoroma says.
The Hyperion Performance Scorecard that has been implemented links directly with the organisation`s employee performance management system, effectively simplifying performance management by creating scorecards at the individual level.
The scorecard is designed for organisations seeking a strategic management solution that provides alignment and focus, accountability, communication and collaboration.
"The Hyperion Performance Scorecard is Web-based and will enable Telecom Namibia to communicate strategy, set targets, establish accountability and monitor key performance indicators," says GBI sales and marketing director Alwin Swales. "It helps businesses to bridge the gap between strategy and execution, and engage a broader range of employees in the planning activities."
Hyperion`s software will enable Telecom Namibia to create consolidated, updated views of information across different operational units, giving executives the insight to make business decisions that advance the company`s growth plans.
It will help the company handle complexities by enabling managers to continuously measure performance, anticipate results and drive profitability across key business activities.
"Because of the changing needs of the market it is important for us to operate at certain levels of performance," Ndoroma says. "These levels of performance must be dictated by the customers and not by our own definitions. The Hyperion Balanced Scorecard enables us to measure performance by introducing lead indicators, instead of having only indicators that measure the past."
Hyperion`s Performance Scorecard has pre-packaged capabilities that include strategy mapping, cause-and-effect mapping, initiative tracking, alerting, and performance reporting. Its flexible architecture supports recognised performance management frameworks.
Integrated communication and teamwork capabilities are enabled by directly linking the solution to e-mail systems, allowing users to record notes and comments about measures, scorecards and strategy elements.
"Key benefits the GBI Hyperion solution provides the Namibian telecommunications company include the ability to communicate strategy throughout the business; align the organisation with corporate strategy, plans and objectives; identify and eliminate initiatives that do not contribute to corporate goals; develop consistent key performance indicators and measurement practices across the organisation; increase employee participation; and build future economic value for key stakeholders," GBI`s Swales says.
Telecom Namibia became the fourth telecommunications company in southern Africa to adopt the Hyperion solutions to help measure performance continuously, better anticipate results, and drive growth and profitability.
"We are a very strategically focused company and GBI`s Hyperion Performance Scorecard tool was identified as a critical success factor in enabling us to achieve our strategic goals," Ndoroma says. "The balanced scorecard concept is used worldwide in major organisations as a tool to operationalise strategy or to measure business performance."
GBI provides BI solutions which include comprehensive support to the entire management cycle, delivering data platform and integration services, query and reporting, data analysis, performance scorecarding, modelling, budgeting, planning, activity-based costing, forecasting and financial consolidation and reporting. When these solutions are used in collaboration, they contribute towards improved organisational growth and profitability, and form a framework of BPM software solutions. GBI is the local distributor of Hyperion, Armstrong Laing and SPSS, and a reseller of Ascential products. These solutions are used by 85 leading South African companies, including 20 of the top 25 public companies.
