Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI) now offers hybrid business analysis with the release of Hyperion Essbase 6.5, the latest version of the world`s leading analytic solution.
Essbase is the key analytic technology in Hyperion`s business intelligence platform for business performance management, and is used by dozens of South African companies.
Hybrid analysis, new to Version 6.5, allows clients to store portions of their Essbase databases in a relational database. This relationally stored data is not physically loaded into the Essbase database, but is mapped to the appropriate Essbase hierarchies.
"Hybrid analysis gives business users more detail for decision-making, while data warehouse and IT managers acquire more modularity in designing and maintaining large-scale analytic applications focused on tangible business goals and benefits," says GBI CEO Johan Cloete.
A second, key enhancement is parallel calculation, which enables an administrator to configure a single calculation request by using multiple threads to accomplish its task.
"This is a major benefit to customers who run Essbase on a multiprocessor system," comments Cloete, "as it allows them to split their workload across the processors and to take maximum advantage of these systems."
Hyperion has also enhanced the database kernel, adding greater support for parallel operations, such as the Parallel Calculation and Parallel Data Load, which specifically address the need to have many granular disk access operations occur concurrently.
Essbase includes data sourcing integration services, enterprise administration services, middle-tier management services, and a variety of tools to assist in the deployment of analytic solutions:
* Essbase Integration Services (updated for Release 6.5) provides a metadata-driven environment to bridge the gap between business analysis applications built on Essbase and detailed data stored in relational databases. Updates include hybrid analysis support, multiple data source connectivity, Oracle native driver support, formula verification, automatic migration, automatic configuration settings for command line parameters, and Unicode support.
* Essbase Administration Services preview edition provides a first-look at the new console that delivers a single point of access for viewing, managing, and maintaining multiple Essbase servers. The console will allow administrators to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, run processes in background mode, perform cross-server operations, and manage active user sessions and requests. This will result in greater efficiency while consuming less in the way of resources.
* Essbase Enterprise Services allows multiple instances of Essbase to run on multiple machines, while serving the user as one logical unit and removing any single point of failure. It enables cube clustering with load balancing and failover capabilities in its high concurrency option.
"As Essbase becomes increasingly pivotal to business decision-making, customers continue to request new functionality," says Cloete. "This latest release embodies many of these requests and will keep Essbase ahead of the pack."
