GBI secures distribution rights for full range of Business Objects products

Johannesburg, 07 Jul 2003

Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI) has secured the distribution rights to the full range of Business Objects products. This allows the company to combine Business Objects, the leading enterprise business intelligence solution, with Hyperion, the market`s leading range of business performance management applications, also locally distributed by GBI.

The company secured the rights on the back of its previous rights to distribute Acta Technology`s data integration tools. Business Objects recently acquired Acta, which strengthened Business Objects` end-to-end business intelligence capability, says Marc Scheepbouwer, CEO of GBI.

Scheepbouwer says GBI saw scope for extending its relationship to Business Objects, as its front-end is complementary to Hyperion`s solutions, and Business Objects is an international strategic partner of Hyperion. GBI has invested heavily in creating a market of customers around Business Objects Data Integrator, formerly Acta, says Scheepbouwer, and it sees value in Business Objects` front-end and other products in its range, as it can now offer tighter integration, and is in a position to support its customers` chosen delivery strategy.

GBI can also implement other products in the Business Objects` range, as its team of consultants has been trained to the required level.

Scheepbouwer notes: "Business Objects Data Integrator platform enables customers to access data from any source across their organisation, regardless of the environment or application the data originates in. This allows for true enterprise-wide business intelligence as, coupled with other Business Objects applications, it can give customers a single, immediate view of all relevant information across the organisation."

Business Objects` product suite includes query, reporting and analysis; information delivery; analytic applications; dashboards, and more.

"GBI`s proven track record with Data Integrator and its satisfied customer base is testimony to its understanding of the issues that drive enterprise adoption of business intelligence," says Gary Lawrence, country manager for Business Objects South Africa.

"Business Objects` strategy in SA is to partner with resellers who understand the customer`s business and technology needs and can add value to the business intelligence product offering, thereby assisting us to grow market share while delivering real value to our clients."

GBI`s implementations of Business Objects Data Integrator at Iscor, Unilever, Kumba and Mondi have helped these companies "get to their data faster and cheaper, using their BI tool of choice", says Scheepbouwer. "The business benefit there is that our clients enjoy significant cost savings, as they have less reliance on expensive ERP programmers."

De Beers, where GBI signed its most recent Business Objects Data Integrator contract, has just begun its business intelligence roll-out, and it expects similar cost savings.

Scheepbouwer adds: "Business Objects Data Integrator has proven to be the tool of choice to provide fast and cost-effective access to SAP R/3 and other data sources. It also supports all other operational business applications, consolidating relevant information to add greater value to applications such as e-commerce."

Business Objects Data Integrator 6.0 is a real-time and batch data integration tool designed to simplify and accelerate data movement and sharing across the enterprise. It provides organisations with data access, integration and delivery, cutting the cost and time required to transform data into meaningful information.
