Gestetner SA moves to dominate high-end printing with new digital workhorse

EMP 156 is capable of 4.5 million images a month and has an engine life of an incredible 90 million images
Johannesburg, 14 Jun 2006

Gestetner SA today announced order taking for its 156 pages per minute enhanced monochrome printer for data centre environments, central reproduction departments and service bureaus.

The EMP 156 (Enhanced Monochrome Publisher), one of the fastest black and white cut sheet laser printers on the market, was developed by Ricoh Printing Systems and based on the company`s industry recognised high-end continuous forms printing systems.

"The EMP 156 is designed to be a highly reliable production printer and is ideal for clients who produce between two and four million images per month, every month," says Gestetner SA general sales manager, Alan Austin. "A core attribute of all Ricoh printers is reliability and in this tradition, the EMP 156 is an incredible 90 million images.

"In addition, the 600 x 600dpi print quality, compact footprint and rugged hardware durability, the ease of maintenance at an operator level and Gestetner SA`s onsite technical support model, ensure that performance is always optimal," says Austin.

Flexibility and control was key to how the software and hardware integrate on the EMP 156. Document production can be controlled from a workstation using a graphical interface and includes features such as page insertion and front and back covers.

This new production printer has advanced paper-handling technology, great print quality and can easily produce 4.5 million images a month.

"This high duty cycle ensures that print suppliers can deliver the required throughput on schedule. Another important feature is the vacuum-fed input trays, which support a wide variety of media up to A3, and ensure absolutely no loss of printing speed," says Austin. In addition, the EMP 156 has container stacker options that have been designed for flexibility in adapting to near-line or offline finishing options for easy booklet making, folding trimming and hole punching.

Gestetner SA and Johannesburg-based printing bureau, Computer Facilities, will hold demonstrations of the EMP 156. If you are interested in taking a look at what this device can do for your business, please contact Alan Austin on (011) 723 5000.
