Gestetner SA and one of its key clients, Liberty Life Marketing and Distribution, a division of financial services giant Liberty Life, have formed a joint venture to provide much needed document management hardware to South African welfare organisations.
Liberty Life Marketing and Distribution recently upgraded its document hardware and decided to donate its existing desktop printers, photocopiers, faxes and scanners to local charities, rather than selling them. Gestetner SA`s role is to collect, test and repair the products to make sure they are in good working order and then deliver and install the equipment.
Since 1 October 2005, 87 pieces of equipment have been installed at 13 charities and rural schools in South Africa. Gestetner SA and Liberty Life Marketing and Distribution estimate that, by the end of the project, over 20 organisations will have benefited from the joint venture.
Poverty remains one of the most urgent challenges facing South Africa, where over 40% of the population live below the poverty line. As a result, charities, non-government organisations and not-for-profit companies have become crucial in ensuring the welfare of many South Africans.
