Gestetner targets office productivity with new MFPs

Range of new features will allow for better document management for small and medium-sized offices
Johannesburg, 16 Jan 2004

Gestetner South Africa has launched a range of easy-to-use multifunctional devices (MFPs) to enhance productivity in small and medium offices. The DSm622, DSm627 and DSm632 combine printing, copying, scanning and paperless faxing to provide an all-in-one compact solution, while also offering a host of new features.

Gestetner`s Marketing Manager, Michael Stanley, explains: "The DSm622, DSm627 and DSm632 are an improvement on existing models of the same copying and printing speed and offer a wide range of new features in a compact device. The devices offer printing speeds of 22ppm, 27ppm and 32ppm respectively. Added features like multiple connectivity options for seamless network integration, scan-to-e-mail and Web-based software tools mean that businesses can increase their productivity by using a single device."

The easy to use Ricoh RPCS driver guides users through print jobs with a series of simple, graphical icons on their PC screens. This means users can access key features by simply following instructions on the easy-to-use screen. Frequently used settings can be saved and used again to further improve document workflow. Rapid warm-up speeds ensure print jobs are completed quickly. Furthermore, optional double-sided printing and copying capabilities maximise efficiency, while minimising paper usage.

Productivity and efficiency are enhanced by a range of advanced, easy-to-use document distribution features. For example, scan-to-e-mail allows users to send documents directly from the control panel to multiple recipients. This provides an easy alternative to international faxing by cutting out call times and therefore, reducing costs. Users can quickly input email addresses using the Qwerty touch-screen control panel or select them from the company e-mail address book. E-mail addresses are accessed directly from a company e-mail server using LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). This saves time for network administrators as, once addresses are updated on the server, all devices are automatically synchronised. In addition, scan-to-folder enables documents to be sent directly to folders on the network, ideal for reducing e-mail traffic, particularly when sharing large documents.

Another added feature to the range is Web Image Monitor, which allows users to view, print or download documents, such as frequently used templates and forms, stored on the document server within the device. Accessed through a standard Web browser, the network administrator saves time as software does not need to be installed on every PC on the network. This feature also enables users to check on the status of paper trays and toner without leaving their desks, to further enhance productivity.

A paperless fax feature allows users to view faxes before choosing to print or download them onto a PC or server, saving on paper and removing the need for a dedicated fax server.

IT managers and network administrators can take advantage of a number of security features. The user authentication tool enables functions such as scan-to-e-mail to be restricted, requiring a password to gain access. In addition, the secure print feature protects confidential and sensitive documents by not outputting them until a user password is entered at the control panel.

The DSm622, DSm627 and DSm632 also offer multiple connectivity options for seamless integration with various network environments. For example wireless LAN (IEEE802.11b) and Bluetooth connectivity, which reduces the amount of cabling required and is ideal for flexible office working environments. This offering is further enhanced by USB2.0 and IEEE1394 (Fireware) options to provide a connectivity solution, which can be tailored to meet every user`s unique requirements.
