Get into high gear: the official Ford Racing game

Speed freaks and Ford fans will enjoy games giant, Empire Interactive's tyre-searing PC and console arcade racing title, Ford Racing, available from Multimedia Warehouse (MMW), a division of Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) and member of the Siltek IT Supply Chain Group.

Empire Interactive, an independent interactive entertainment software company, has signed a global licensing agreement with motor manufacturer Ford late last year to develop a global gaming franchise based on the Ford Racing team.

"The end-result is a racing game with 12 vehicles and several other 'concept' cars from the Ford Motor Company's US and European vehicle selection, including the Taurus, Mustang, F-Series, Explorer and GT90, and of course, SA's very own "Car of the Year 1998", the Ford Fiesta" says Brett Smith, product manager at Multimedia Warehouse.

All car physics and controls have been accurately replicated, offering realistic track handling as well as customisable vehicle set-ups to fine-tune the selected vehicles. Players can choose from 10 textured racetracks and the variety of single and multi-player modes provides opposition from up to 15 other talented drivers.

"A notable feature is the game's Career Mode, which offers competition against 80 other drivers in three different race classes, namely Class, Closed and Open Championships. Players start out as novice drivers, racing in amateur class races against similar vehicles to build a reputation and finances. As they succeed through the more difficult racing levels, sponsorships and eventually contracts are offered to race for a world-class team," says Smith.

The ultimate goal for players in Career Mode is to get enough money that to pay their own racing cars and maintenance costs at the world's highest levels. If a player gets to this point, a whole range of vehicle accessories and combinations become available as they race their way up to the top.
