Get more from Oracle with Sun Microsystems and BPLC Management Consultants

Roadshow to demonstrate best business practice
Johannesburg, 23 Feb 2004

Sun's infrastructure solutions are selected more often than those of any other vendor for Oracle E-Business Suite, a comprehensive integrated business management solution, with over 35% of worldwide implementations based on Sun's combination of the Solaris operating system and SPARC processor architecture.

"Sun and Oracle have shared decades of joint technology collaboration, resulting in completely tested and configured Oracle E-Business Suite solutions for companies of any size - from enterprise to midmarket," says Alan Smit, solutions architect at Sun Microsystems SA.

Now Sun, Oracle and BPLC (a certified Oracle partner) will be visiting key locations around SA with a roadshow that demonstrates the benefits of Oracle's technology stack (database) and application software based on Sun hardware. "Many organisations using Oracle's technology stack are not exploiting their resources as effectively as they might. With this roadshow, we intend to bring attention to the full features of the technology stack, moving away from the assumption that the database is just a storage mechanism for data," Smit adds.

With third-party business applications on an Oracle database, licences for the Oracle software have to be purchased. "Yet, in some instances, either none or very little of the inherent features of the Oracle technology stack are used. This is a waste of the investment in Oracle," Smit continues.

Barry Stocks, managing director of BPLC Management Consultants, says: "We will be providing some of the business benefits that the Oracle E-Business Suite has to offer. The majority of the business community in SA are unaware of the fantastic business solution Oracle has, and many are still under the impression Oracle only provides their renowned database."

"Our objective is to change this perception and provide proof that Oracle's business solution can provide the expected ROI where other enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendors are failing," Stocks explains.

"In the international market, the Oracle E-Business Suite is receiving a huge amount of attention with approximately 13 000 organisations currently using the E-Business applications. The growth of the E-Business Suite user base indicates that Oracle has a conclusive story to tell."

Deon Els, Director: Alliances and Channel at Oracle South Africa, reports that Oracle's E-Business Suite has seen an upswing in interest. "Oracle as a serious application software provider is now gaining momentum in the market.

"Customers have the choice of Oracle E-Business Suite or Oracle applications as standalone modules, but at the same time are getting the benefit of closer integration with the database. In conjunction with application software, the power of the Oracle database is being recognised in terms of security, delivery of business intelligence, and data integrity and accuracy."

During the roadshow, Sun and BPLC will address the financial and business benefits of the Oracle E-Business Suite and technology stack, the ramifications of applying the latest version of both and examine the benefits of using Sun as the platform for Oracle software.

The roadshow will visit Durban on 9 March 2004, Cape Town on 10 March, Port Elizabeth 11 March, and Johannesburg on 12 March.
