With high-profile data breaches and incidents skyrocketing, the challenge to protect and manage data has become a universal concern for organisations.
Trusted information has become one of the most significant resources driving value and risk in companies, and information governance is touted to help overcome risk, improve data quality and reduce IT complexity.
ITWeb has partnered with IBM to produce a free executive forum on data governance on 25 March at the Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg. The event will explore the common challenges in data and information governance, and introduce IBM's Data Governance Maturity Model, used to benchmark current practices and design strategies.
Chairing the event is Steven Adler, programme director of IBM data governance solutions, who provides a keynote address.
Adler, an authority on security, privacy, and operational risk management, will also host the roundtable discussion on local experiences. Global and local trends will be discussed, as well as and what South African organisations need to focus on to govern their information more effectively in an increasingly price-competitive market.
The event kicks off with a welcoming address from Elize van der Linde, GM of data governance organisation at Absa, who also serves as chairperson of IBM SA's Data Governance Council.
Sunil Soares, information agenda director at Industry Solutions, says many organisations are asking where they should start with their data governance programmes. Soares will discuss the various on-ramps to data governance, and show some solutions IBM has developed to assist on this journey.
The free event is geared towards CEOs, CIOs and IT professionals interested in discovering how to reduce IT complexity, improve productivity, and measure risk more effectively.
