Ghana to upgrade utility providers

Ghana's vice-president, John Dramani Mahama, says the government is determined to improve the services of utility firms since their services play a critical role in the survival of businesses, reports Ghana Business News.

Mahama says: “Companies rely on the efficiency of certain public services for good business transactions, which includes dependable energy supply and standard information and communication technology infrastructure”.

This comes after the announcement of eTransact, an electronic payment system with operations in four other African countries; namely, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, SA and Zimbabwe, as well as Europe.

Belkin buoyed by growth in Africa

Peripherals and accessories vendor Belkin is growing its Middle East and Africa (MEA) sales at a dramatic pace, says Channel EMEA.

Belkin recorded MEA sales in the first half of fiscal year 2009 more than double the revenues achieved during the whole of fiscal year 2008.

Belkin believes all countries in MEA have great opportunities for expansion and growth, despite the current turbulent times.

SRA awards $40m subcontract

General Dynamics Information Technology will provide IT services to the US European Command (Eucom) and US Africa Command (Africom) under a $40 million subcontract awarded by SRA International, states Washington Technology.

Through the European Command and Africa Command IT support programme, General Dynamics will provide a range of enterprise IT services including program management, systems engineering, systems , configuration management, training and maintenance.

General Dynamics will provide enterprise communications and IT services to both US Eucom and US Africom to support their missions.
