Gigabyte Expand Box makes connectivity to the front

Johannesburg, 20 May 2004

Rectron has introduced Gigabyte Technologies` Expand Box, a compact device that offers users more accessible connectivity, moving IEEE 1394 (FireWire), USB 2.0 and audio ports to the front of a PC.

The Expand Box provides access to traditionally rear-mounted ports and combines them into one single unit.

The device is inserted into any 3.5-inch external drive bay and secured using the (included) screws. The installation is simple and requires only the external IEEE 1394 (FireWire), USB 2.0 and audio ports to be connected to the respective headers on the motherboard.

"Fewer connected peripherals translate into fewer tangled cables at the back of your PC, which if anything means that you can move your PC with ease. Also, when installing the Expand Box, no software drivers are required, users can just plug and play," comments Reon Coetzee, marketing manager of Rectron.

The Gigabyte Expand Box includes two USB 2.0 ports, two IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports and two audio (Line-In/Line-Out) jacks. The USB ports, for example, provide easy front connection for devices such as Webcams, digital cameras and printers.

For flexible FireWire connections, the Expand Box has one 6-pin IEEE 1394 connector, for CDRWs and external drives, and one 4-pin IEEE 1394 (iLINK) connector for digital video camcorders and other smaller external devices.
