Gigabyte Technology - distributed locally by Rectron - has announced the immediate availability of its latest 3D graphics card, the GV-R9800 featuring ATi`s RADEON 9800 visual processing unit (VPU).
Based on the MAYA II series, the GV-R9800 delivers powerful performance to gaming enthusiasts, while offering support for the AGP 8X industry standard.
The AGP 8X bus, for example, provides a crucial bandwidth link between the graphics card and the PC.
Comments Reon Coetzee, marketing manager at Rectron: "The GV-R9800 can render up to eight pixels simultaneously. This is enabled with eight parallel 128-bit floating-point-rendering-pipelines, each with its own independent texture unit and pixel shader engine."
The texture unit can sample up to 16 textures in a single rendering pass - these textures can also be one-, two- or three-dimensional.
In addition, the GV-R9800 series supports TRUFORM 2.0, the latest incarnation of ATi`s higher order surface technology. TRUFORM is designed to smooth out the curved surfaces of 3D characters, objects and terrain by increasing the polygon count through a process called "tessellation".
"The GV-R9800 offers state-of-the-art functionality that was designed not only to make today and tomorrow`s games and other 3D applications look better, but to create new possibilities for visual entertainment," he says.
The GV-R9800 also features Microsoft`s DirectX 9.0, the industry standard application programming interface for graphics and is fully compatible with current and future versions of OpenGL.
