Gigazone is the name of a new computer retail store consortium that has been formed in KwaZulu-Natal. Currently seven prominent computer companies have banded together under the Gigazone banner to market PCs and peripheral products.
The consortium, headed by Jan Nortj'e, the Gigazone business manager, has concluded an exclusive distribution agreement with JSE-listed Rectron, one of South Africa`s largest computer components and peripheral products distributors.
Nortj'e says the initiative is geared to give the group more purchasing "muscle" and the deal concluded with Rectron is evidence of this.
He says the focus on Rectron products has allowed Gigazone to adopt competitive pricing strategies across all stores, to the benefit of the consumers in the KwaZulu-Natal region.
Rectron CEO, Mark Lu, has welcomed the Gigazone initiative and thrown the weight of Rectron behind its marketing initiatives.
"We intend working closely with Gigazone to assist the group with the formulation of marketing strategies, product promotions and the training of its sales and technical support personnel," he says.
Lu stresses that Rectron does not have a financial stake in the consortium.
"We see Gigazone as an exciting new development for the KwaZulu-Natal market. The consortium is positioned in the Rectron portfolio as a value added reseller," adds Nortj'e.
