Gijima has named Maphumuzana (Maphum) Nxumalo as its new COO, as well as Bheki Khumalo as its new human resources executive as it continues with its turnaround strategy.
The listed company's announcement follows its May appointment of Bill Hoggarth as its new chief sales officer. Gijima recently completed the first six months of its turnaround strategy and has, so far, achieved savings of R200 million a year without "exceeding the industry norm in terms of staff turnover".
The group announced the need to turn around yet again last September after a torrid year.
CEO Eileen Wilton says the company looks forward to welcoming both Nxumalo and Khumalo to its executive leadership team. "They both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to Gijima and their excellent track record will be a worthy asset to Gijima. I am looking forward to working with them as we continue to progress on our turnaround strategy."
Nxumalo has 37 years' corporate experience, at first in the mining and retail industries, and then in ICT companies. He joins Gijima from T-Systems, where he held the position of VP of systems integration for nine months, before assuming responsibilities for strategic business development (SBD) as VP for the last 12 months.
He has also held several executive directorships, including Unisys (2000 - 2003), National Research Foundation (2001 - 2006), Sybase SA (1998 - 2000), Face Technologies (2000 - 2001) and Ariel Technologies (2000 - 2001). Nxumalo was the COO of SAP Africa and the CEO of SAS Institute in Africa before joining T-Systems.
Meanwhile, Khumalo, who holds four degrees including an LLB from the University of South Africa and an MA (Clinical Psychology) from the University of Nata, has more than 17 years' experience in a variety of roles.
Khumalo started his career as a clinical psychologist and consultant at SMA Consultants and recently served as a director of Great Basin Gold, Southgold Exploration and Puma Gold. He has also served as an executive director of Hillside Aluminium and Billiton Aluminium, and as a member of the Professional Board of Psychology (South Africa) and the Mental Health Review Board.
Nxumalo takes over from Wilton, who was initially COO before becomming acting CEO after Jonas Bogoshi's resignation, while Khumalo takes over from predecessor Michael Ferreira.
