Gilat Satellite Networks has launched its SkyEdge product family, which it says is the first set of VSAT products able to operate via a single hub.
Barry Spielman, Gilat senior director of corporate marketing, says previously Gilat`s VSAT solutions for governments and corporates with telephony, enterprise data and broadband IP operated independently.
"The SkyEdge product family is the first satellite solution in the market that allows users to run one or more VSAT solutions off a single hub. The revolutionary unified platform supports a variety of applications and topologies including mesh, star and multi-star, and represents a major step forward in VSAT technology," he says.
While Spielman says the solution will be used specifically across Europe and North America, Gilat also expects it to be widely used in the 20 countries in which it operates in Africa.
"Gilat`s solutions are ideally suited to the African continent because of the lack of infrastructure in Africa and because many countries in Africa have favourable legislation for satellite solutions," he says.
The products in the range include the SkyEdge Pro - a multi-service VSAT, the call, gateway, IP and DVB-RCS solutions.
Spielman says the SkyEdge DVB-RCS VSAT has a dual mode operational capability that has the advantage of complying with the internationally recognised DVB-RCS standard while also being able to operate in Gilat`s multi-service mode.
"The SkyEdge product family opens new markets and business opportunities for satellite network operators, giving users a lower entry cost for satellite networking business and the lowest possible space segment cost with which to start the network`s operation. Additionally, the single hub will lowers costs because of the interoperability between the solutions," he says.
