GIT provides Ornico with digital video storage solution

Johannesburg, 22 Jul 2002

Graphic Image Technologies (GIT) has provided Ornico Media Information, supplier of a comprehensive commercial reference library, with a custom-built digital video database and storage system for television commercials.

GIT was responsible for the design and integration of the entire system.

Says Mark Chertkow, managing director at GIT: "Ornico supplies the advertising industry with competitive television commercials, and have a large amount of video content. They needed a fast and efficient way to digitise their commercials without losing quality, so we provided them with an Optibase video encoding and in-house developed database and image extraction solution.

"Using this solution, Ornico is able to save their video material to hard drive and extract still images for their database. They can now search for advertisements, play them back in MPEG1 or 2, view video stills from their database, build play lists and cut advertisements to CD."

Says Oresti Patricios, managing partner, Ornico Media Information: "GIT replaced our existing Betacam recordings with an MPEG archiving system. From that, we can now create a new play list, and we no longer need to go through a lengthy editing process to create competitive reels. This system will also allow our clients to view commercials on their desktops or over their intranet.

"The transition to a digital system has redefined our business processes, improved flexibility and has created new opportunities for us. The system is easy to use and helps us to better serve our clients - providing them with a fast, accurate and comprehensive service."
