Global IT association ISACA establishes 200th chapter

New chapter in Zambia to promote governance of information and technology.

Rolling Meadows, Illinois, USA, 20 Feb 2013

ISACA, a non-profit association serving more than 100 000 IT audit, security, risk and governance professionals in 180 countries, recently established its 200th chapter. ISACA got its start in California, USA, in 1969, as the EDP Auditors Association, and has grown as a global member organisation for IT assurance, risk, security and governance professionals. IT professionals in Zambia, Africa, have formed the 200th ISACA chapter in Lusaka, Zambia, joining nine other chapters in Africa.

According to Moonga Mumba, CISA, the president of the new chapter, there is a growing need in Zambia, and particularly in Lusaka, for the establishment of IT best practices, which has created the need for credible and highly skilled professionals. The developing nation has recently adopted the use of IT in most business processes to align with global trends. The ISACA Lusaka Chapter was formed to garner IT audit and control professionals and achieve the national objectives. More than 90 members have already joined the chapter.

"We are honoured to be ISACA's milestone as the 200th chapter, and our Lusaka Chapter comes at the right time, when Zambia is recognising the importance of IT governance," said Mumba. "Establishing this chapter offers local IT professionals many opportunities for knowledge sharing and growth. We hope to be serving more than 200 professionals by the end of 2014, representing all major organisations in the country."

The ISACA Lusaka Chapter's mission is to provide support to local ISACA members, promote IT education, and strengthen the governance of enterprise IT in Zambia to help enterprises gain trust in, and value from, their information systems. The chapter will offer monthly meetings, seminars, mentoring opportunities, workshops, training courses and networking opportunities, along with a chapter Web site that will include all chapter activities.

Officers of the new ISACA Lusaka Chapter include:

* President - Moonga Mumba, CISA, Zambia Revenue Authority
* Vice-President - Jordan Maliti, CISA, Zambia National Commercial Bank
* Treasurer - Lubinda Namiluko, CISA, Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority
* Secretary - Kapembwa Sindano, CISA, Zambia National Commercial Bank
* Membership Director - Fortune Phiri, CISA, Bank of Zambia

Other ISACA chapters in Africa are the Accra Chapter (Ghana), Kenya Chapter, Mauritius Chapter, Abuja Chapter (Nigeria), Ibadan Chapter (Nigeria), Lagos Chapter (Nigeria), South Africa Chapter, Tanzania Chapter and Kampala Chapter (Uganda).
