Marc Scheepbouwer has been appointed as CEO of Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI), the business intelligence division of JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology. Formerly sales director of GBI, Scheepbouwer takes over from Johan Cloete, who resigned late last year.
Scheepbouwer has been with GBI since its inception in 1997, helping drive the company to its current position of market dominance: it is the unquestioned leader in the South African business intelligence market.
"Marc`s expertise, commitment, track record and focus on customer service made him the logical candidate to head up GBI," says Global Technology CEO Ray Leonard. "We are confident that Marc will not only cement GBI`s market leadership, but help propel it to the next level."
Scheepbouwer has a decade`s experience in the business intelligence market. He started at a technical level at SPL, implementing solutions for large, blue-chip corporate clients, gradually progressing to a strategic business focus.
In 1997, Scheepbouwer helped form IBD, a business intelligence start-up subsequently acquired by Global Technology in 1998. IBD had acquired the local distribution rights to the Arbor Essbase (subsequently acquired by Hyperion) solution set, which he introduced to companies such as Firstrand, Telkom and Sanlam. All of these companies are still clients of GBI, and have significantly extended their use of Hyperion`s solutions.
With Scheepbouwer as marketing and then sales director, GBI has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the market rankings, securing a client set that includes MTN, Eskom, Sasol, Nampak, Kumba, Telkom, De Beers, Massmart, Sappi and more.
"Business intelligence has a pivotal role to play in improving corporate governance and general business management," says Scheepbouwer. "The foundation has been laid over the last six years for the new discipline of business performance management, which we are ideally positioned to exploit through the Hyperion suite."
Scheepbouwer takes over at a time of accelerated growth for GBI. The company was recently acknowledged as the world`s best performing Hyperion subsidiary, and in Gerrardt le Roux it had the top performing salesman in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region; it has an exceptional pipeline of opportunity; a team of more than 30 consultants; and a client base highly receptive to the business performance management message.
"While we have the best products in the world, our success has been due to a focus on business benefit rather than technology," adds Scheepbouwer. "This focus has helped us secure the largest and most prestigious client base in the country."
